Sask. Premier Moe announces COVID-19 proof of vaccination system, mask mandate – September 16, 2021

In Regina, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Dr. Saqib Shahab, the province's chief medical officer of health, outline new public-health measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 amid a fourth wave of the pandemic. Saskatchewan Health Authority CEO Scott Livingstone also takes part in the briefing. Starting September 17, masks will once again be mandatory in all indoor public spaces. A full proof of vaccination system or a negative COVID-19 test policy will come into effect on October 1 to access certain non-essential businesses and venues. The mask order will be lifted in late October. All employees of provincial government ministries and Crown agencies will also need to be vaccinated, with proof of full vaccination required by Oct. 1. Employees will need to show consistent proof of negative tests if they are unable to provide proof of vaccination. Premier Moe has initially resisted the idea of implementing a proof of vaccination system. The Saskatchewan government's update comes one day after Alberta announced it would be moving towards a proof of vaccination program. Premier Jason Kenney had initially also been opposed to the idea.
